Album
Specimens of Fancy Turning is Janky Switch’s horror album — a slow, beat-driven descent through haunted basements, tormented bodies, and a world still marked by the old, witch-burned ways. Dread and longing are braided together across the record: bodies that can’t stop screaming, doors that call from the other side, and the small, stubborn dream of a better time.
Guest vocalists Eth Eonel, Freddie KC and Drew Stephenson carry the highlight tracks, each bringing a different voice — from haunted body horror to a hymn inspired by The Gospel of Aradia — while the core of the record (Kick It, Inhale, Arrari, A Little Bit, Exhale) and four bonus instrumentals explore everything from big beat to field recordings.
The title and cover are lifted from Specimens of Fancy Turning, a 19th-century book of albumen photographs by Edward J. Woolsey: geometric, spiralled forms cut with a lathe and then photographed — figures that seem to unspool light across a surface, the way dread does here.
